Channel 4 Stop Glamorising Fast Fashion
'Inside Missguided' aired last night on Channel 4. As a small ethical brand owner, I was shocked that Channel 4 would choose to air a series about a 'fast fashion' brand when in the past it has made eye-opening documentaries about how poisonous this industry can be.
Luckily, I am not the only one who shares this sentiment. Reviews have criticised how the documentary glossed over the 'fast fashion' element and in fact the show actually glamorised the issue, in one instance how a buyer bartered the price of a dress down to £7.40 from £7.50. Many of my fellow small ethical business owners who manufacture their own goods have said this would be impossible for them to achieve, in terms of the cost of manufacture, components like zips, fabrics, packaging and shipping. Why do Channel 4 think that this is okay to broadcast?
In another instance an influencer was offered £350,000 to promote the brand across social media, but of course getting that dress 10p cheaper was crucial for the brand.
Channel 4 please consider the damage you are doing by promoting 'fast fashion' as glamorous and exciting, surely the garment workers making that £7.40 won't feel the same way? Is it really necessary to broadcast the rest of the series?
Rebuild the economy out of lockdown with a Green New Deal
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, Government has intervened in the economy in an unprecedented way. The recovery must not simply reinstate 'business as usual' – Parliament must introduce a radical 10-year strategy for public investment to decarbonise the economy and eradicate inequality.
UK Parliament declared a Climate Emergency on 1 May 2019, but our emissions reduction efforts have so far fallen dangerously short. The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted both the power of Government to make rapid changes to protect people, and the extreme costs of delay.
The economic lockdown, while painful for so many, has resulted in a significant cut in emissions.
We must rebuild from the Coronavirus tragedy with the economic and social renewal mapped out by the cross-party Green New Deal Bill.
Ban the exploitative import of young puppies for sale in the UK
Plenty of dogs from UK breeders & rescues need homes. Transporting young pups long distances is often stressful, before being sold for ridiculous prices to unsuspecting dog-lovers. Government must adjust current laws, ban this unethical activity on welfare grounds & protect these poor animals ASAP.
Make Hedgehogs a Protected Species
We, the undersigned, call on the government to make hedgehogs an officially protected species and to limit activities which may disturb, degrade or destroy their habitats.
This petition is put forth on the following grounds: ∙ Hedgehog numbers have dropped from 30 million in the 1950s to fewer than 1 million today ∙ Populations have fallen by at least 50% in rural areas and 30% in urban areas since 2000 ∙ Trends show an ongoing decline of about 5% per year nationally ∙ Decline is largely due to habitat loss and fragmentation as hedgerow removal and new development projects isolate populations
Teach Britain's colonial past as part of the UK's compulsory curriculum
Currently, it is not compulsory for primary or secondary school students to be educated on Britain's role in colonisation, or the transatlantic slave trade. We petition the government to make education on topics such as these compulsory, with the ultimate aim of a far more inclusive curriculum.
Now, more than ever, we must turn to education and history to guide us. But vital information has been withheld from the people by institutions meant to educate them. By educating on the events of the past, we can forge a better future. Colonial powers must own up to their pasts by raising awareness of the forced labour of Black people, past and present mistreatment of BAME people, and most importantly, how this contributes to the unfair systems of power at the foundation of our modern society.
Add education on diversity and racism to all school curriculums
Racism is a problem that affects all members of society. It is important to deconstruct taught ideas of racism to children so they do not go on to become perpetuators or victims of racism. At the moment classes about racism and diversity are not mandatory and this should be changed.
The Government must acknowledge racism as a problem and address it. As racism is a taught behaviour it is important to directly address racism through education. The younger we teach and encourage anti-racist behaviour, the better prepared children will be to anticipate and correct these negative behaviours throughout their lives. Minority groups are disproportionately affected in many political issues. By dismantling racist constructs early on, we can combat these issues also.
Require all police officers to take Anti-Racism education
BAME and especially black people are more likely to be stopped and searched, and arrested, than white people. To be non-racist is not enough. All UK citizens should be and continue to learn how to be actively non-racist AND especially those in power, such as police officers.
The Government should make in-depth anti-racism education (not standard D&I training) a compulsory part of the training required to become a police officer, and for continued training to be compulsory throughout the careers of police officers. This education should be delivered or facilitated/informed by black race educators.
Making the UK education curriculum more inclusive of BAME history
Rewrite the education curriculum to be more inclusive of BAME history - making topics on the historical and current impacts of European colonisation, institutional racism and slavery on BAME societies compulsory for all UK students to learn. As well, as celebration of BAME history and cultures.
Recent events in the US has sparked conversation amongst young people regarding the extent the current curriculum educates students on concepts such as institutional racism, White supremacy and celebration of BAME history and cultures.
Racism stems from a lack of education and it is the responsibility of the Government to ensure that the students are receiving a holistic education from the top-down.

Make LGBT conversion therapy illegal in the UK
I would like the Government to: • make running conversion therapy in the UK a criminal offence • forcing people to attend said conversion therapies a criminal offence • sending people abroad in order to try to convert them a criminal offence • protect individuals from conversion therapy
Despite all major counselling and psychotherapy bodies in the UK, including the NHS, condemning LGBT conversion therapy, it is still legal and LGBT individuals in the UK are still exposed to this psychological and emotional abuse to this day. The very thought of this sickens me, and I would like to see it stopped one day.
Add gender identity to the characteristics protected under the Equality Act 2010
Non-binary people are not recognised by many countries despite being regular people who should be protected by law like any minority. Non-binary teens have a 42% chance of attempting suicide accordingly to one study and they are more likely to be assaulted and bullied.
Make it illegal to discriminate on the grounds of gender identity, including people who identify as non-binary. This is a good first step in the recognition of non-binary people.

Broker a ceasefire for all sides in Yemen to carry out humanitarian aid
As Yemenis who are privileged to be British citizens, we want our Government to put pressure on all military groups in Yemen, including the Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition forces, to halt attacks on Yemen; to allow humanitarian aid to be carried out. We want all groups to put down their weapons.
This devastating war has took a huge toll on Yemen. It's upsetting to witness such crimes being carried out in our homeland. Over 24 million Yemenis require urgent humanitarian assistance. This conflict has resulted in economic collapse. 10 million Yemenis are on the verge of famine and more than 17 million are without adequate access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene. Yemen is on the verge of extinction now that there's been an outbreak of COVID19. Yemen needs our help to end its suffering.
Impose sanctions on China over its treatment of Uyghur Muslims
The UK Government plans to introduce “Magnitsky law”, a law which targets people who commit gross human rights violations. Through this law or alternative means, this petition urges the UK Government to impose sanctions on China for their human rights violations on the Uyghur people.
Since 2017, there have been many reports of the “cultural genocide” of Uyghur Muslims, a minority Turkic ethnic group native to Xinjiang, China. They are subject to mass detention, mass surveillance, restriction of religious and cultural identities, as well as other gross human rights abuses. Over a million Uyghurs have been forced into "re-education" camps.
In front of the United Nations in October 2019, pressure was placed on China regarding the treatment of Uyghurs during a joint statement from 23 countries. Despite this statement and growing public awareness, nothing substantial or concrete has been done to resolve the crisis and help the Uyghur people.

Hermes: Protect all your drivers now!
Guarantee all workers, including new drivers you are recruiting, get the legal minimum wage and sick pay.
Parcel delivery firm Hermes are hiring for 10,000 new jobs to cope with the huge increase in demand for online shopping during the coronavirus pandemic.
But, Hermes is facing criticism that it doesn’t protect all of their delivery drivers. Many drivers still don’t receive any sick pay and aren’t guaranteed the legal minimum wage. It just isn’t fair. It's time Hermes did more to ensure all staff receive basic workers rights. Sign the petition to pressure Hermes to do more to protect all drivers now!

Give non-British citizens who are NHS workers automatic citizenship
Give NHS workers who are EU and other Nationals automatic UK citizenship if they stay and risk their own lives looking after the British people during the COVID crisis.
The NHS is a great institution, but one that has been under great pressure for years. It could not function without staff who come from many different countries. Brexit has already affected morale for many. Due to the COVID pandemic, we are asking these NHS workers to risk their lives to look after the British people while their own families are far away. This is a chance for the British Government and Public to show them how much we appreciate their invaluable contribution to our society.
Call for the UK government to formally recognise the State of Palestine
The UK government should formally recognise the State of Palestine based on 1967 lines with Jerusalem as a shared capital. To enable this, the UK government should act robustly to prevent annexation of territory by the State of Israel as well as facilitating peace, justice and dignity for all.
Considering the UK's historical role in the situation in Israel-Palestine today, through the Balfour Declaration and Sykes-Picot Agreement, the UK government needs to take responsibility and take an active role in restoring peace in the region for the benefit of Israelis and Palestinians alike. Dialogue between parties should be rooted in the recognition of the human rights, equality and dignity of all Palestinians and Israelis, as well as maintaining a firm foundation in international law.
Don’t punish those trying to find safety: open letter to Priti Patel
Dear Home Secretary Priti Patel,
Please provide safe refuge for the people risking their lives to get to the UK by boat and ensure the UK prioritises saving lives, rather than punishing refugees and migrants.
No person would take a life threatening journey across the sea unless they were desperate. These are human beings who are trying to protect their children and find safety and a better life for their family - to punish them for this is inhumane.
The UK must not move towards a system that punishes people looking for safety and in need of refuge, we’ve seen what these policies like these can lead to elsewhere in the world.
Instead, Britain should aspire to be a country that stands up for those who are in danger and welcomes those that need a home.

Investigation into the Libyan slave trade
Hi everyone. Many people don’t want to face reality and the reality is that Somali citizens as well as other ethnic black groups are being auctioned off as slaves in Libya. This has been going on for quite some time and many people are unaware of what goes on in Libya. They’re being beat to a pulp and in some cases death is the end result. This can no longer carry on, the appropriate actions need to be taken to ensure the safety of these citizens as well as the safe return back to their home countries. In light of everything that is happening in the world, it is only right to try and make a difference. Black lives will always matter. It is not fair that black lives are being disregarded and that slavery is still very much present in this day and age. Please take the time out of your day to simply sign this petition, it’ll only take less than a minute. It’s time we made our voices heard and help those for less fortunate. It’s time we put pressure on those in charge to investigate the injustices black people face in Libya. Thank you very much.
Disbarment of George E. Barnhill
We are calling for the disbarment of prosecutor George E. Barnhill. We feel his decision to sit on the case of Ahmaud Arbery's murder for three months was out of prejudice/racism and a personal relationship with the murderers.
We need to feel like there is JUSTICE in the justice system and not based on racism, prejudice, or personal feelings. Mr. Barnhill displayed a clear case of not being able to disconnect himself from this case and look at the clear cut facts involved.
Justice for Amaud Arbery
On February 23, 2020, Ahmaud Arbery, a 25 year old black man, was jogging through Satilla Shores of Brunswick, GA. This is a predominately white neighborhood, so Ahmaud stuck out like a sore thumb to Gregory and Travis McMicheal. These two men (father and son) took it upon themselves to grab their guns, stalk and harass Ahmaud because he "allegedly" resembled someone that’s been committing break-ins in their area.
Ahmaud tried escaping the preying men but was cornered by the duo and later shot twice due to a said "altercation". Ahmaud wasn’t the person who’s been committing these crimes. He was just guilty of being another innocent, unarmed black college student who had aspirations to go to the NFL. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time, reaching for his dreams. These two cold blooded killers STILL walk free two months later, and without expected repercussions.
Justice for Regis Korchinski-Paquet
Regis Korchinski-Paquet was murdered by Toronto Police.
A call was made for a domestic incident and Toronto police officers were present on the 24th floor in a High Park apartment building to "observe" 29-year old, Regis. Shortly after, she allegedly fell off the balcony.
Toronto Police specifically contacted all news channels to not show up and that her death was ruled as a suicide when many eye witnesses saw Regis being pushed off the balcony. The Special Investigative Unit (SIU) is now conducting an investigation due to the high possibility of police brutality.
Regardless of SIU being involved, we are trying to reach the attention of Mayor John Tory, MPP Bhutila Karpoche, and Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders to commit to a transparent investigation and to hold the officers involved accountable in the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet through firing and filing charges. Please help us get justice for Regis Korchinski-Paquet and her family!
Justice for Tamir Rice 1/2
My cousin Tamir was only 12-years-old when he was shot and killed last year by a Cleveland police officer as he played in a park with a toy gun. Timothy Loehmann, an officer in training, shot and killed Tamir within two seconds of arriving at the park. The police car hadn’t even fully stopped before he began shooting.
He shot my little cousin so quickly it would have been impossible for him to tell Tamir to drop the toy airsoft gun, much less for Tamir to respond to them.
Tamir’s killing was captured on camera. That should have been all that was needed to charge the officer. But next month marks a full year since his death and the County Prosecutor, Timothy McGinty, has still not even presented this case to a grand jury to determine if charges will be filed against the officers.
This is unacceptable. Timothy McGinty needs to be replaced with a special prosecutor, who are used in high-profile cases, to ensure that there isn’t bias.
Our family believes that McGinty is clearly biased and in favor of the officers. This week he released two “expert” reviews which sided with the officers even though neither of the review writers had even interviewed the officers.
Please join Tamir’s family in calling for a special prosecutor to be appointed to this case.
Justice For Tamir Rice 2/2
More than a year after police shot and killed my 12-year-old cousin Tamir Rice as he played in a park with a toy gun, a grand jury declined to charge the officers who opened fire on Tamir in less than 2 seconds of arriving to the scene. My family is saddened and disappointed– but we are not surprised. Since Tamir was killed, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy McGinty has been on the side of the police -- manipulating the grand-jury process so that they would vote against indicting the officers. We need the U.S. Department of Justice to step in to conduct a real investigation into the killing of a 12-year-old child.
Even though video shows police shooting Tamir immediately, Prosecutor McGinty hired so-called expert witnesses to tell the grand jury their conduct was reasonable and justified. It is unheard of, and highly improper, for a prosecutor to hire "experts" to try to exonerate the targets of a grand-jury investigation. These are the sort of "experts" we would expect the officer's criminal-defense attorney to hire — not the prosecutor. He gave the officers special treatment which would never be given to non-police suspects. The Department of Justice has launched independent investigations into police killings of civilians before. Last year, they launched one in response to the killing of John Crawford, who, like Tamir, had a toy gun in his hand while shopping at a Walmart when police rushed in and shot him to death. A Change.org petition helped make that investigation happen and that’s why I need your signature. Please sign my petition asking the Department of Justice to launch a federal investigation into prosecutor McGinty's handling of the grand jury process; and for the killing of 12 year old Tamir Rice.

Justice for Sean Reed!
Yesterday, excessive use of violence ended the life of a unarmed man by the name of Sean Reed.
We, the residents of Indiana, are tired of the lack of discipline not only shown by, but given by and to our officers in these predicaments.
I, and all who sign this agree that those officers should be charged with murder, because it fits the definition of the word. A man running from you is not a threat to your life, which is the only reason that a firearm should be drawn. This cannot be allowed to continue, the more senseless deaths caused by police officers on our african american brothers and sisters, the less we can trust any of you.
They had no reason to pull their firearm, let alone the fact that they shot this young man several times! We will not stand for this anymore! And quite frankly neither should anyone with a badge or a public servant's desk. We impatiently wait for your response to our demands.
More than Sincerely,
Justice 4 Sean Reed-Conviction of Indianapolis Police Officers
May 6, 2020 U.S Air Force Veteran Sean Reed was gunned down by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police. He was tased, shot 10+ times, unarmed. After his death police officers stood over his body joking about his funeral & death. These remarks were of such, "Looks like a closed casket homie Haha", "That's what he gets for running". You can also hear in the live stream , the department orchestrating their LIE of a story to the public. You can also hear them & see them tampering with evidence. His live stream was deleted from his page, you can see the police officer/sheriff touch the phone to do so before it ended.
These officers need to be convicted of Indiana Code Title 35. Criminal Law and Procedure § 35-44.1-2-2 ;Indiana Code Title 35. Criminal Law and Procedure § 35-41-5-2. The execution of the Sean Reed, lack of professionalism, + evidence tampering is unacceptable and we will not stand for it. We cannot go outside without being target practice and it ends TODAY! THIS WAS A U.S AIR FORCE VETERAN HE FOUGHT FOR A COUNTRY THAT DOES NOT CARE ABOUT HIS LIFE. THIS IS THE THANKS THAT THE IMPD GAVE HIM. Please Join the community to put these murderers in prison. #Justice4SeanReed #BlackLivesMatter
Justice for Alejandro Vargas Martinez!!!
Alejandro is a innocent 15 year old, African American who got shot 7 times while walking to Boone High School, in December of 2018. NO ARREST HAVE BEEN MADE!!! By signing this petition you are raising awareness to help find his killers and make sure they they get what they deserve. Send this petition to your friends and family, send this to your local news, make Alejandro’s name heard and most of all bring him justice.
Justice For Tony McDade
Tony McDade was a transgender black man who got killed by police in Tallahassee. As of right now I haven’t seen many people talking about this, but I would really like to get his name out there. It would be very appreciated if you could sign this petition and encourage others to do so as well.
Justice For Joāo Pedro
14-year-old Joāo Pedro was killed by the Rio de Janeiro police. In 2019 alone, Rio police killed 1,814 people; an all time record. The victims mostly being young black males. Joāo was shot at his home and his body was taken by the Rio de Janeiro police. His family waited 17 hours until receiving news of his whereabouts. They finally found his dead body at a medical examiner’s office. The family counted 72 bullet marks on the walls of the house. Cops say Joāo died in a shootout started by criminals. Neighbors say that is a lie.
The escalation in police killings comes after Governor Wilson Witzel promised to, “dig graves,” and shoot criminals, “in their little heads,” to stop crime. Under Witzel, the Rio police carry out frequent sniper attacks from helicopters, always in poor neighborhoods. As a homework assignment, one child from a local school wrote: “I don’t like helicopters. When they come, people die.” The pandemic has not slowed the police but only made matters worse. Please spread the word and get justice for Joāo Pedro along with every unlawful murder these policemen have committed. Sourced from: The Brazilian Report https://youtu.be/qQgpHnP51TI
Correcting a wrongful conviction. Kyjuanzi Harris
In 2011, Mr.Harris was arrested without cause and held against his will for two years in the county jail. In December of 2013 he went to court for 3 days were a jury came back with a a guilty verdict. Convicting him of life in prison without parole. He’s been in prison for 9 years. What you need to know.
1.) No evidence linking Mr.Harris to the case.
2.) key witness of prosecution admitted to purging initial accusations. CLICK TO SIGN THIS PETITION Julius Jones is innocent. Don't let him be executed by the state of Oklahoma.
When Julius Jones was 19-years-old, he was convicted of a murder he says he did not commit. I need your help to save his life.
Julius has lived on death row for almost 20 years, and is held in solitary confinement for 23 hours a day. He is allowed one hour of sunlight a day, and three showers a week. Every minute we wait to take action, Julius is suffering. Every second that goes by brings Julius closer to being executed for a crime he didn’t commit.
At the time of the crime for which he was convicted, Julius was a 19-year-old student athlete with a promising future, attending the University of Oklahoma on an academic scholarship. It is clear that Julius’ lawyer did not adequately defend him, and that explicit racial bias played a significant role in the process.. For example:
Eyewitnesses place Mr. Jones at his parents’ home at the time of the murder, miles away from the crime scene.
Mr. Jones’ co-defendant admitted to being involved in the crime and is now free after testifying against Julius. He was heard bragging that he “set Julius up.” Mr. Jones’ co-defendant matches the only eyewitness description of the shooter based on the length of his hair.
Newly-discovered evidence shows that at least one juror harbored racial prejudice that influenced his vote to convict and sentence Mr. Jones to death. One juror reported telling the judge about another juror who said the trial was a waste of time and “they should just take the n***** out and shoot him behind the jail.”
I learned about Julius’ story through Viola Davis’ docuseries “The Last Defense.” As a person of color and a person of faith, I knew that I couldn’t stand by while an innocent man was killed. I am an Oklahoma taxpayer and the idea that my money will be used to kill Julius makes me sick. Every day an innocent man is forced to sit in solitary confinement, awaiting his death.
Recently, a grassroots movement successfully pressured Texas to stay the execution of Rodney Reed, another black man sentenced to death for a crime he says he didn’t commit. If we can save Rodney, then Julius has a chance. Please join me and demand justice for Julius. CLICK TO SIGN THIS PETITION

Hold a public inquiry into the 2016 EU membership referendum
Many people question the validity of the 2016 EU membership referendum given as a result of nature of the campaigns in the run up to it.
The divisive nature of the 2016 EU membership referendum has caused a schism in our country and many to question the quality of our democracy. To restore confidence in our democracy we therefore ask for an independent public inquiry into the 2016 referendum.
Improve Maternal Mortality Rates and Health Care for Black Women in the U.K.
Black Women in the U.K. are 5 times more likely to die during pregnancy and after childbirth compared to White Women (MBRRACE, 2019). We need more research done into why this is happening and recommendations to improve health care for Black Women as urgent action is needed to address this disparity.
The Government must commit to funding the changes necessary to eradicate these statistics and improve maternal health care outcomes for Black Women. Between 2015-2017 the chance of death for Black Women was 38 out of 100,000 however it was 7 out of 100,000 for White Women according to the Confidential Enquiry into Maternal Deaths and Morbidity.
An urgent explanation and tangible action needs to be done by the Government to stop this number increasing and putting Black Women’s lives in danger.
We would like the government to consider social care as equally important to NHS
We would like the government to support and regard social care: financially, publicly and systematically on an equal par as NHS. We would like parliament to debate how to support social care during COVID-19 and beyond so that it automatically has the same access to operational and financial support.
Practically, there is parity of position between health and social care: Social care employs more people than health, is intrinsically community based and supports a large number of the population. However, there is a significant lack of parity of esteem between the two. The government’s recent early response to the COVID-19 and the March 2020 budget was exemplary of this lack of parity. This includes the pay and rewards of staff, professionalisation, funding, training and political discourse.
Restaurants: don’t allow chlorinated chicken on your menu!
Popular restaurant chain Nando’s has announced they’ll never serve chlorinated chicken in any of their meals. It means that no matter what happens in a UK-US trade deal, they’ll stand up for their customers, and keep low quality imported food from the US off their menus.
So far, they’re the only major UK restaurant chain to make this promise. But together, we can change that.
As UK restaurant goers and potential customers, restaurants care about what we think. Tens of thousands of us demanding major UK restaurant chains ban chlorinated chicken from their menus could spur them to act.
So if you don’t want to see products like chlorinated chicken being served in restaurants in Finchley and Golders Green will you sign the open letter today?

Scrap removal of free transport for under-18s from TFL bailout
To not decide to scrap free travel for those who are under 18. As a teenager who has relied so much on free travel, it has allowed for me to go to school without the worry of an extra expense and explore around the beautiful city of London also. Destroying free travel would hurt so many of us.
By scrapping this as part of a £1.6bn TfL bailout package, those from poorer backgrounds will be forced to pay to go to school. This will impact those who cannot freely travel to school (driving, cycling or walking) . As there are fines put in place for children who do not return to school in September 2020, this will further increase economic problems for many families in the UK. This will increase poverty within the UK, causing more people from poorer backgrounds to fall further into debt.
Amazon: pay the digital services tax yourself
Amazon - pay the new 2% digital services tax rather than passing on the cost to small businesses struggling to get by.
By the time you finish this sentence, Amazon boss Jeff Bezos will have made £12,000.
But despite its massive wealth, Amazon has started wriggling out of paying a new UK digital tax - by passing the extra cost directly onto the small businesses that use its website. At a time when these businesses are struggling to get by, it’s an indefensible decision.
The UK Government introduced the new tax in April, to try to make massive digital companies like Amazon pay their fair share. But even though Amazon has made billions during the coronavirus crisis - and only paid 2% tax on it’s UK earnings last year - the company has found a way to get out of paying the new tax by directly hurting small businesses. Let's show them that is not acceptable.
